About Jim Hallberg
I have been actively coaching a variety of athletes for over 10 years - from high school track stars and cross country teams to weekend warriors and competitive age-group athletes. A native of Colorado, I have lived in Castle Rock, Durango, Lamar, and, now, Longmont.
Running has always been a really enjoyable outlet for me. I did not run competitively until my junior year of high school. I ran track and cross country at Douglas County High School where I broke 4 school distance relay records. I accepted an invitation to run on a 3 week European track Tour from Switzerland to Sweden in 1996. In college, I ran for Fort Lewis College and developed the Fort Lewis Track Club.
My triathlon career began in my junior year in college when a roommate suggested that I enter a local triathlon. Four months prior and not knowing how to swim, I enrolled in my first swim class and borrowed a friend's road bike. I ended up placing 2nd overall and had the time of my life! I knew then that I would be doing this for a long, long time!
From Sprint triathlons to Ironmans, I have raced around the country. In 2007, I won my age group at the Sprint National Championships and in 2010 Half IM National Championships. Eight months later, at Ironman Arizona, I qualified for the World Championships in Hawaii (once again on a borrowed bike!) Although I've competed in 4 Ironman events, my preferred race distance is now half-Ironman and under, and since the World Championships, my focus has been on going faster. I won the Boulder 5430 Triathlon Series in 2009 against solid competition - but my key was having the fastest overall or amateur bike split in every race!
Currently, I am a Certified Personal Trainer, a USA Cycling Coach and enjoy sharing my love of the sport with others, through JoinTheJim Multisport Coaching.
